Atlas Travel International Drives Air Traffic Control Improvements: Encourages Senate to Move Forward with Federal Aviation
Administration Reauthorization Act
August 3, 2009: Milford, Massachusetts – Atlas Travel International continues to make efforts to improve travel in the United States, in particular for those who have to travel extensively for business purposes. Atlas' corporate philosophy of community activism encourages employees to participate in events for causes that are close to their hearts.
To that end, Executive Vice-President of Global Business Development Kerin McKinnon, in conjunction with the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), participated in a legislative summit, met with key members of the United States House and Senate and was pleased to hear that the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2009 passed out of committee.
“Changes to our system of air transport have been long needed,” said Ms. McKinnon. “With the passage of this act the next generation of air traffic control will make things safer for everyone. It was important that Atlas be a part of this effort and to doing more in the future.”
The Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2009 advances the implementation of the Next Generation Air Transport System (NextGen), which utilizes satellites to help track air traffic rather than the ground-based radar system currently in place. The act also strengthens safety regulations that will assist business travelers and their employers with their travel efforts by helping to reduce delays, air traffic circling, plane wait times for take off and more.
“I had the honor to meet with representatives from Senator Kerry and Senator Kennedy's office,” said Ms. McKinnon. “With the passage of this bill and the moving forward with this technology, air traffic will be moved much more efficiently.
This will help not only travelers but also the environment
by reducing the emissions produced by air planes.”
The bill has now been approved by the committee and the Senate will need to vote on the passage of the act. NBTA is encouraging Congress to move forward with the approval process in order to get the bill signed by the end of this year.
