What is all of the buzz about checkpoint friendly?
The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has recently reversed its rule that laptops need to be removed from cases during passenger security screening IF the laptops are in checkpoint-friendly cases.
2.
How does the TSA define checkpoint friendly?
There is a lot of misinformation in the marketplace, but the criteria established by the TSA are clear:
- The laptop and case must be able to be viewed in a single x-ray image
- There must be a clear and unobstructed view of the laptop
- It must be self-evident to the TSO (Transportation Security Officer) that the case meets the criteria
- The laptop must be protected.

6. How can you be sure Travelon's Checkpoint-Friendly Bags will work?
Travelon's bags have been designed to the TSA specifications and have undergone and passed rigorous testing by the TSA and through airports nationwide. It should be noted, however, that individual TSOs have the authority to require a passenger to remove his or her laptop from its bag, regardless of whether or not it is in a case that is checkpoint friendly. Travelon's products will include a notice to users of the TSOs authority.
7. Do all U.S. airports accept Checkpoint-Friendly Bags? Will international airports follow the same criteria?
All commercial U.S. airports should have implemented the new TSA procedure. At the present moment, the U.S. is the only country to adopt this program. Each country sets its own security screening process.

No, the TSA introduced checkpoint friendly into the public domain in March when it issued its request for proposals. While several companies are attempting to obtain trademark registrations on the term, these registrations will be opposed.
