AA shows commitment to female market with new Web site

Andrew Compart, Travel Weekly, 4/9/2007

American Airlines took another step in the effort it began a year ago to market more directly to women by launching a Web site April 9 specifically for female customers.

The new site, www.aa.com/women, includes information on safety and security; saving time and money while traveling; traveling with friends, family members or partners; and stories and advice from other female travelers.

Travelers can submit their own insights to wehearyou@aa.com. American plans to post the top five travel tips each month.

American said nearly 50 million female passengers board American flights each year, comprising about 48% of its total number of passengers.

Nora Linville, who became American's first director of women's sales and marketing in March 2006 after serving as its manager of corporate and travel agency sales, said American created the new Web site with the help of an advisory panel that included former female employees of American, female business owners, and women who regularly travel for business and pleasure.

To commemorate the site launch, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts has partnered with AA and is offering a 20% discount on hotel bookings and special spa offers designed with women in mind through Dec. 31. The specials are valid on reservations made in conjunction with flights through AA.com/women. Wyndham also has targeted female travelers with its Women On Their Way program.
