NEARLY 50% WILL AVOID TRANSATLANTIC TRAVEL, FINDS SURVEY Bev Fearis, TravelMole, 08/14/2006 Travel community website, Tripadvisor, is warning that US-UK travel will be significantly down in the next few months according to its latest survey. According to a poll of some 1,200 travellers, nearly half of the respondents (47%) said that in light of the recent terrorist threat they would avoid travelling between the US and the UK over the next two months. Meanwhile, a statement issued by US-based Business Travel Coalition (BTC), an advocacy organization representing the interests of corporate buyers, said business travel between the two countries would also be impacted. Chairman Kevin Mitchell said: "Foreign flag carriers will likely see an immediate boost in traffic, as US carriers were the apparent targets. "Business travel to the UK will likely remain off if corporations and travellers are not confident that the threat has been eradicated. "Business travel demand will likely be dampened, at least somewhat, if additional security measures are perceived to be truly onerous. This has implications for domestic US travel as well as US to UK travel. "Fractional jet and corporate flight department options will receive greater interest from corporate security executives and senior management for security and executive productivity reasons."
