NBTA Victory:

FAST Redress Act Passes in the House

The FAST Redress Act Was Unanimously Passed Today

In the U.S. House of Representatives
Thanks to the commitment and determination of NBTA Members, the U.S. House of Representatives today unanimously passed the Fair, Accurate, Secure, and Timely ( FAST) Redress Act of 2007 (H.R. 4179). NBTA has supported this legislation since its introduction in November and has worked closely with Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, who introduced the bill, to encourage its support throughout Congress.

We Did It
Corporate travel professionals gathered in Washington last week to attend the NBTA Legislative Summit where they learned about current legislative issues facing the business travel community, including the FAST Redress Act. Attendees visited their Congressional offices to encourage support for this bill, explaining its necessity to the business travel community. Many NBTA Members also emailed their Representatives yesterday asking them to support the FAST Redress Act as Congress was preparing to vote.

What is the FAST Redress Act?
The FAST Redress Act would take significant steps towards alleviating the burden of those commercial aviation passengers who believe they have been wrongfully placed on a government watch list and consequently remanded to secondary screening or denied boarding. This legislation would set up a dedicated office within Department of Homeland Security to coordinate and streamline the process of appeal for these individuals. The office would then create and share with airlines a "Cleared List" of individuals who have gone through the redress process.

We're Not Done Yet
So that this legislation can pass through Congress and to the President's desk, the Senate needs to introduce a companion bill. Make your voice heard by encouraging your Senator to introduce companion legislation.

Ask your Senator to introduce companion legislation to the FAST Redress Act.
