Important Information: Daylight Savings Time Changes
In an attempt to further reduce energy consumption, Congress approved a new start of Daylight Savings Time (DST) for 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2007, and a new end for 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007. Since 1966, the U.S. has observed DST from 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in April to 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday in Oct. So for 2007, this change means that DST starts three weeks earlier on the second Sunday of March and ends a week later on the first Sunday of Nov. The time change takes place in both the U.S. and Canada, but not Mexico.
This means that beginning March 11th at 2:00 a.m. we will move clocks forward one hour. For example, Eastern Standard Time (EST) will move forward to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). On November 4th, we will move clocks back to standard time.
Since this change takes place in just a few short weeks, we all need to be aware of its potential impact to operating systems and applications, both at work and at home. Many home systems and appliances, including time clocks, PCs, cell phones, DVD players, and so on, still have the old time change embedded in them, and will have to be adjusted accordingly. Microsoft has provided a helpful Web site for updating its products for both home users and businesses: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst.
