InterContinental Hotels Group plans to build four Hotel Indigo boutique properties in the Baltimore/Washington metro area. The new properties, all to open by the end of 2008, will be located in Ashburn, Chantilly, and Herndon, Va., and Linthicum, Md., and are owned by the Asha Companies.
"Fast-growing, near-urban markets like the four we have identified in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area are an ideal setting for Hotel Indigo's unique and inspired concept," said Jay Patel, Asha Companies' CEO and CFO. "We look forward to welcoming our first guests."
The hotels will reflect a newbuild prototype Hotel Indigo rolled out in October 2005.
The newbuild design was created to meet demand by developers eager to build Hotel Indigo properties in suburban and near-urban areas where conversions are not an option, according to IHG.
Additionally, Hotel Indigo recently introduced what it called "Interpret Indigo," which enables developers the flexibility "to creatively interpret the property's interior design while maintaining the Hotel Indigo brand hallmarks."
"The newbuild design concept was always considered to be an important step in our distribution strategy to maximize the growth potential of Hotel Indigo," said Jim Anhut, senior vice president, brand development for the Americas, InterContinental Hotels Group in a statement.
Hotel Indigo, which launched in 2004 with its first property in Atlanta, also features two hotels in Chicago and one each in Dallas and Houston and another in Sarasota, Fla. A seventh Hotel Indigo will open in Scottsdale, Ariz., later this year. Meanwhile, another 20 are in development.
