Make your NYC stay Sunday and save

Here's a tip for cost-conscious vacationers and business travelers whose accounting department is sharpening pencils on the bottom line:

New York is a famously pricey and popular destination, but with a new city tourist board promotion, timing a Big Apple stay for a Sunday night can take a 20%-30% bite out of hotel bills.

Three dozen hotels participating in the new Sunday Stays program (and more are expected to sign up) are offering rate cuts and more.

The just-redone Jumeirah Essex House is giving 25% off its best available room rate on Sundays, an upgrade and free parking. This is worth checking out, because the historic hotel by Central Park is now a sister property to luxury hotels in Dubai and has been given a $90 million face lift that includes all the electronic bells and whistles and ostrich-print headboards and red leather desk chairs, too.

The two Ritz-Carltons are slashing 20% off rates and pouring a welcome cocktail. The Dream New York is doing that, too, plus taking 20% off a spa service. The five W hotels are slicing 20% off their rates, serving a free drink and breakfast. Click here for hotels with deals on Sundays — traditionally a slow night. The program is continuing indefinitely, and the list of participating hotels is likely to expand, so keep an eye out to see if your favorite property pops up.
