Danube River Enchants Atlas Vacation Experts

Atlas Vacation Manager Karen McCrink and Senior Vacation Specialist Sally Hathaway recently returned from an enchanting Danube River Cruise with Uniworld's Boutique River Cruise Collection aboard a brand new boat, The River Beatrice. They sailed from one captivating city to another: Budapest; Bratislava; Vienna; Dürnstein; Salzburg and Passau.

Karen is an adventure travel lover, so the more gracious pace of river cruising was a new treat. “I thought it was a wonderful trip,” she said. “The boat is beautifully decorated and the cabins very boutique style with rich fabrics on the walls and bedding.

She continued, “River cruising allows you to pull right up into the heart of most of the towns or cities. You can walk a short distance and you are right in the middle of a beautiful typical European square. All of the food, along with unlimited wine with dinner, is included. Every day there is also a shore excursion included.”

Karen loved Vienna. “The city is so grand and the buildings so impressive,” she said. “We arranged to have horse-drawn carriages pick us up and take us to a dance studio where we had a waltz lesson.” Both Karen and Sally recount the carriages and waltz lesson as a highlight of the trip.

While Sally knows Europe like the back of her hand, this was her first river cruise too, and she came away anxious to share the experience with her customers.

“I enjoyed Salzburg the most,” she said. “The gardens were absolutely beautiful and the markets were just awesome. Great food, beautiful hand-painted ornaments from real eggs…so delicate.”

Sally says river cruising was not at all like other cruises. “There is no motion at all, and you can see all the little towns as you travel along the river. The houses and village churches are just so picturesque to see, and you walk right off the boat in most places right into the town. It's so relaxing and casual. Since there is a small number of passengers, you do get to know people. Even the Captain was on board handing out water bottles and greeting us when we returned from a day of sightseeing.”
